St. Somebody or other tour...

It was an easy day today, and one that I relished. I read a whole book, cover to cover, and it didn't even have pictures. My most difficult decision was which wine to have with dinner. That was only difficult because one never knows which wine to have with Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. If it was just the standard kind, well, everyone knows that would have been easy, but this was the "deluxe" Macaroni and Cheese. Anyone with such a discerning palate who chooses the deluxe kind knows that you can't just pair it with just any wine like you can with the more common mac n' cheese. I chose a young but sophisticated Spanish Tempranillo from 2009 to match the delicate cheese from the squishy pack. I wasn't disappointed--I twisted the screw cap, removed the $5.99 price tag, and let it breathe while the macaroni tenderly boiled to al dente mush, and then squeezed the cheese in and let the flavors flow. I tell you, I am ready for my cooking show...

It was a beautiful day and one that might even make me think that spring might come in the next month or two. Perfect blue sky, temps in the 50s, and I knew that it was a perfect day for a drive. I started out on the saints tour of the area. This area is decidedly Catholic--I can see a parish from my window, and drive by another on my way to work--the county is even more Catholic. While I know of no St. Cloud (correct me if I am wrong) I know that there are several towns in the county which are named after a saint. I traveled to St Stephen's, St Anna's, St John's, and then to Rice, which had a church also named after a saint, but apparently not one famous enough to name the town after.

It was just a great day to take a few photos--yes, the sky really was that blue. The churches were nothing if not photogenic. I want to visit the insides of these churches with a camera someday. I came across the sign along the way. Don't really know what to think, other than I think I might skip the dinner there. I would go there as I love places like this, but they would have had to tout the soup before the car wash or the laundry. I drove through St John's which is a beautiful college campus, but only took photos of students out rollerblading and enjoying the sun.

my home

It is late, but I want to post some photos of my space and home.
  • The living room with all its overstuffed comfy furniture
  • My small but growing Modern Library book collection. I once had more than 300 of them, but am starting again and have about 25. Any of you who have Modern Library books with the dust jackets with the price of less than $2.00 on original jacket, let me know! This is my new collecting passion...
  • My bedroom with the great bed and warm comforters
  • The dining room with the piano that came with the place
  • The kitchen
  • I live probably two or three blocks at most from the river, the Mississippi River. The ice is going out on the river. I drive past it every day on my way to work on the 1.5 mile drive, so I am sure that you will see more of this
I think that this all is a huge improvement, and I am starting to enjoy my home. There is still lots more to do, but this will work out. I will write more soon...
